Developmental Editing

The big picture editing: the focus is on structure, style, theme and content. I look for structural problems, pacing issues, plot or thematic inconsistencies, under-developed characters, stiff dialogue, missing sections, and overly large or underdeveloped sections — and make detailed suggestions for addressing these issues.

Line & Copy Editing

Occasionally I call these two together ‘word-smithing’.

Line editing: A line-by-line look at your writing, focusing on paragraph and sentence structure, word use, etc. with the aim of creating a smooth flow of writing.

Copy editing: A tighter focus on the mechanics of writing, looking for grammar, spelling, and punctation errors, incorrect word uses, logic lapses, and continuity problems.

Proofreading

A character-by-character read at a manuscript to flag typos, spelling/punctuation errors, formatting mistakes, and other minor mechanical problems.

    • Royalty split: 5% (on DriveThruRPG or the DM’sGuild)

  • Fiction

    • 2 cents per word

All-in-One Editing

3 Editing Passes: Developmental, Line & Copy Editing, & Proofreading
Covers editing from beginning of the project through publication, including developmental editing (the big picture look), line & copy editing (prose polishing), and once lain out, proofreading for typos, punctuation, formatting, etc.

  • Table-top Role Playing Games

    • 4.5 cents per word OR

    • Royalty split: 22.5% or 75$ + 12.5% (on DriveThruRPG or the DM’sGuild)

  • Fiction : 4 cents per word

Sensitivity Reading

Indexing

Once the book has been laid out in its final form, with all editorial changes made and art in place, I will read the entire manuscript and build the index of terms and concepts your players will want and where to find them.
